Sculptra “ The Liquid Facelift”
Over time skin loses its firm, full, youthful appearance through the ageing process. Through a combination of collagen and fat loss, areas of the face become thinner and narrower making you look older. Sculptra is a collagen stimulator and offers a full facial non-surgical facelift. Unlike other treatments which concentrate on specific lines and wrinkles, Sculptra will result in full facial rejuvenation.
Sculptra (injectable poly-L-lactic acid) is injected into the skin and stimulates cells to produce new collagen. This results in improved tissue elasticity, dermal firmness, tissue density and facial contouring to produce a long lasting and youthful look. Sculptra is suitable for treating all aspects of facial ageing. 2 to 3 treatment sessions, 6 to 8 weeks apart are required to obtain best results. Initial results may only be noticeable from 6 weeks after the first treatment as the process relies on new collagen production.
A detailed medical history is taken to establish that there are no contraindications to treatment. Pregnant and breastfeeding women cannot have Sculptra. Those who form keloid scars are also excluded.
After a careful assessment of the face a topical anesthesia is applied. Treatment involves injecting the Sculptra in a number of anatomical regions. Treatment may take up to 45 minutes.
Common side effects include redness, swelling and bruising at the injection sites. In 1% of people palpable nodules may form below the skin.
The effects of Sculptra can last up to 3 years.
